Learn to Balloon Twist

To Learn to balloon Twist, you need to know The Basics of Balloon Twisting

  • Always leave a bit uninflated at the end of the balloon to be able to push the air into.
  • The balloon has two ends: the Knot end and the Tail-end. Always twist from knot to tail! This is to enable the air to displace without popping the balloon.
  • Always twist in the same direction, this will prevent the balloon from unravelling.
  • As you twist try and keep your proportion of bubble sizes correct and always look at how much is left before finishing your twist.
  • Don’t be scared of it popping, balloons sometimes do!
  • Remember the balloon is your friend! 🙂

A Skill for Life

1-2-1 Tuition is great once you have learned the basics! I currently teach a few children that really love the art of balloon twisting and I meet them once a month to increase their confidence.

It really is wonderful to watch their confidence soar and skill level improve from a beginner to an intermediate twister! Check out Syd The Balloon Fairy who has been twisting with me since 2018.

I am so proud of my balloon students and love to see them think for themselves and work out how to make a certain shape or design without using instructions! Watch the video below to see an example of what can be achieved when you put your mind and some fun into it!

Not only is balloon twisting great fun, it is really good for problem-solving skills and hand to eye coordination and it also really helps with coping when things go wrong.

Here you will find everything you need for Balloon Modelling – I suggest you order a 2-way inflation pump and a bag of 100 x 260 sized balloons (mixed colour bag is best). You will also need a black permanent marker pen to draw on the facial features. A black Sharpie is good for this!
